About

Magic Sort is a pouring puzzle. A row of glass vials holds layers of colored potion, four layers to a vial, all mixed up. Your job is to pour them around until every vial is either empty or filled with a single color. A full vial gets a cork, and when the last one is corked the level is done.

The first fifteen levels are set by hand and ease you in. Level one has two colors and four vials. By level fourteen there are eight colors spread across ten vials, with just two empty vials to work with. After that the levels keep coming, each one new, and each one the same for every player, so you can compare notes with a friend.

There is no timer and no move limit, and you cannot lose. The screen counts your moves and remembers your best for each level, which is the only score there is. If you prefer shapes to colors, the colorblind mode puts a symbol on every layer.

How to play

  1. Tap a vial to lift it and see its top color.
  2. Tap a second vial to pour the matching color into it.
  3. Only same colored liquid can stack on top of itself.
  4. Fill a vial with one color to seal it with a cork.
  5. Use hint or undo if you get stuck.

Tips

  • Before your first pour, look for a color that is already on top of two vials. Bringing those together is usually a safe opening.
  • Treat the empty vials as your workspace. Fill one only when you know how you will empty it again.
  • A pour moves the whole run of matching color on top, as far as there is room. Count the free space before you pour.
  • Undo is unlimited and takes the move back off your count, so trying an idea costs nothing.
  • You get three hints per level. A hint lights up one good pour, which is often enough to see the rest.
